JAMES D. BARNETT Sr., 71, of Port Republic, died Monday at the Atlantic City Medical Center, Mainland Division.
Mr. Barnett was a pipe fitter and member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local No. 322.
Mr. Barnett was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Galloway Township VFW. He also was a fireman at the Port Republic Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 and a former police chief.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in World War II.
Born in Delta, Pa., Mr. Barnett was a resident of Port Republic for 32 years.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Gilbert); three sons, James D. Jr. of Port Republic, John of Moravian Falls, N.C., and Michael of Cardiff; eight daughters, Margaret Foster and Sharon Higbee of Smithville, Dolores Dill of Island Falls, Maine, Deborah Gallegos and Robin LaBelle of Port Republic, Melanie Champion of Germania, Pamela Barnett of Linwood and Patti Wythe of Pleasantville.
He also is survived by a brother, Thomas L. of Bensalem, Pa., three sisters, Sarah Slagel of South Hampton, Pa., Vera Tanzler and Rosemare Weber of Bristol, Pa., 29 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Port Republic, where friends may call one hour before services. Burial will be in Port Republic Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, Northfield.
