- Obituary, Bridgeton Evening News, 27 Nov 1907:
Canton.
Emma, wife of Jacob Pierce, died very suddenly early Saturday morning. She was 24 years old the 8th of
last July. She had gotten up early in the morning, as has been her custom during the absence of her husband,
employed in Bridgeton, and had just commenced to build fire, when she was stricken and fell prostrate on the kitchen
floor. A neighbor heard the children crying and proceeded to investigate. Finally, a door was broken open and
Mrs. Pierce was found dead. Heart disease is believed to have been the cause of her death. Mr. Pierce started
to walk home from Bridgeton Saturday morning and was met by a resident of Canton, between Bridgeton and Roadstown,
when the sad news was imparted to him. He arrived at Canton between 2 and 3 p.m. Mrs. Pierce was a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Durham, and had the outward appearance of being an unusually strong and healthy woman. Besides
a husband, three small children are left to mourn her loss. Interment Wednesday afternoon in the Cuff cemetery, Canton.
- Emma was buried in Cuff Cemetery, Canton, New Jersey.
