Charles Fitzsimmons
Hammond-- Charles R. "Bud" Fitzsimmons, 81, of 528 Lewis St., Hammond, and formerly of LaPorte, died Sunday,
Sept. 2, 1984, at 1:45 a.m. at St. Margaret's Hospital, Hammond.
He was born Dec. 1, 1902, in LaPorte, to Michael and Caroline (Blakeman) Fitzsimmons, and had lived in LaPorte
for most of his life. He had lived in Hammond for about one year.
After 46 years of service, he retired in November, 1964, from his position as press room foreman at the
LaPorte Herald-Argus. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a member and past grand knight of St. Michael
Council 1542 of the Knights of Columbus.
He was married to Frances Moore, who died in 1957. On Sept. 10, 1960, in LaPorte, he married Dorothy Schmidt,
who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Robert Fitzsimmons of San Pierre, and Robert Buck and Donald Schmidt, both of
Hammond; one daughter, Barbara Grube of Yalesville, Conn; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs.
Charles (Mary Kay) Goodall of LaPorte. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Cecil Fitzsimmons.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. George M. Vrabely
officiating. Friends may call at Essling Funeral Home today from 2-9 p.m. and Wednesday until the time of service.
Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Parish members and members of the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary tonight at 7 p.m. at the funeral
home.
