Death Claimed Splendid Woman / Mrs. Lenora (Gavin) Durham Died at Mercy Hospital in Elwood. / Born near Leisure
Mrs. Lenora Gavin Durham, 52, wife of David Durham of the New Lancaster community, died at the
Mercy hospital in Elwood Thursday midnight, death being due to pneumonia. Mrs. Durham had been ill for some time
and was taken to the Mercy hospital Wednesday, where efforts of physicians were futile to stem the advancement
of disease.
The death was a shock to family and friends of this splendid woman, who leaves a host of friends
and relatives to mourn her passing. Mrs. Mary Durham, mother-in-law of the deceased, who resides in Windfall,
was notified of the death shortly after it occurred.
Mrs. Lenora Durham was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Gavin and was born and reared in the Leisure
community east of windfall. She was united in marriage to David Durham 33 years ago and for a number of years
they had resided on a farm near New Lancaster.
Mrs. Durham was a splendid Christian woman and was a devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic church
in Elwood and was active in social and welfare work in her community.
Surviving with the husband are two sons, Harold at Anderson and Eugene at home, and three daughters
Dorothy and Helen Durham at home, and a married daughter, Betty in Gary.
She is also survived by a brother, Mike Gavin of Elwood, and four sisters, Mrs. Frank Ley of
Aliquippa, Pa.; Mrs. James Shea of Gary; Mrs. James Moore of the Leisure community, and Mrs. Wayne Sutton of Elwood.
