Mrs. Durham Passes
The death of Mrs. Jennie Durham, wife of William S. Durham at the family home southwest of Tipton on
Federal Road 32 which occurred at 4:15 Saturday morning was a shock to the community. Mrs. Durham had not been in
good health for the past 18 months and recently contracted flu. Heart failure caused by this disease was responsible
for the death.
Mrs. Durham was a daughter of James and Isabelle (Dickey) Innis and was born and reared on the Innis
homestead 7 miles southwest of Tipton. She was 59 years of age and was one of a family of 12 children. The surviving
children are Mrs Sam Walker of Fortville and Mrs. Sarah Endicott residing in Utah.
The deceased was united in marriage to William S. Durham in 1889 and she and her husband have resided
since that time at their present home. Beside the husband and two sisters she is survived by several children Misses
Harriet and Aldena being at home, the latter being a teacher at the First Ward school building. A daughter Mrs.
Lincoln Boyer resides at Kempton; Nathaniel and Sanford reside near Tipton and another son James resides at Muncie.
Mrs. Dunham was one of the splendid women of this county being a devoted wife and mother who took great
pride in her home and family. She was a good neighbor and a woman who had many friends.
The late Dr. A. S. Dickey was a cousin of Mrs. Durham. Funeral services are to be conducted at the East
Union church southwest of Tipton at 1:30 Monday afternoon, Rev. J. C. White of Tipton in charge and burial will be in
the Bethsadia cemetery.
