Isaac H. Nutter / N.J. Attorney, Dies
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP)--Isaac H. Nutter, 80, the first Negro attorney to practice law in Atlantic County,
died at his home here yesterday of a heart attack.
Nutter was a noted criminal lawyer and won innocent verdicts in more than 50 murder cases during the past
half century. He was also active in many political campaigns in the county.
A native of Princess Anne, Md., Nutter came here shortly after his graduation from Howard University Law School
in Washington. He had lived in the same home for the past 40 years.
Though seriously ill for some months, Nutter continued practicing until his death and had conferred with
several clients only Wednesday night. Last year, he won a commendation from the bench after he represented persons in
four consecutive cases in County Court.
He leaves a brother, Thomas, of Charleston, W. Va, and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Royland of Philadelphia and
Mrs. Hattie White of Princess Anne.
