TOWNSEND, JEANETTE RICE, 80, of Hempstead, Long Island, NY and formerly of Atlantic City, died in Hempstead General Hospital on Saturday, March 11, 2000.
She was the wife of the late William Remson Townsend. Surviving are her two daughters, Barbara A. Camper of Atlantic City, and Jacqueline Dorner of Voorhees; sons, Richard A. Townsend of East Orange, and his wife Celestine, and USAF SmSgt Samuel Glenn and his wife Cathy of Hampton, Va.; a brother, Retired Major John P. Rice and wife Phyllis of Long Island, NY; an aunt and uncle, Virginia and Frank Hillery of Pleasantville; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her son, Donald M. Townsend.
Jeanette was born November 12, 1919 in Atlantic City. She loved Atlantic City and passionately talked about returning to see and be with family, grandchildren and old friends. She was a member of Union Baptist Church of Hempstead, where she was a member of numerous clubs and activities. From 1970 until she retired, she taught Adult Education at Franklin Avenue School in Hempstead.
A Viewing will be held in Long Island on Friday evening from 6PM until 9PM at Union Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10AM at the church.
